Welcome to another week of the Fitness Solutions Plus newsletter.

Whole Body Vibration

Whole body vibration is one of the “hottest” new things to hit the market. What is it? It’s basically a platform that you stand on it, and it vibrates at different frequencies.

The advertisements make a lot of claims, from fat loss, to reduction of joint pain, to speedier rehabilitation, to improved speed, strength, and much more. In fact, it goes so far as to claim that you can get the effects of a 1 hour workout in 10 minutes.

If you know me personally, you know that I’m a skeptic, and you know that I like to have every last bit of information before I feel comfortable either promoting it, or speaking against it.

Previously, I’ve never bothered learning about whole body vibration, because those machines were so scarce that nobody I knew had access to one, so it was really impractical. But over the last couple of weeks, things changed. Two of my clients bought a machine, the gym I work out of purchased one, and another one of my professional colleagues got one in her clinic.

Since I now had easy access to the machine, I decided to experiment with it. I really didn’t know how to use it, so all I did was just push the “start” button, and stand on it for as long as it vibrates (usually 30 seconds, although the time is adjustable). I did this for a few consecutive days, without thinking too much about it.

I then checked my body fat this morning, and it was 0.5% below the usual. Doesn’t sound like much, but to lose half a percent, I usually have to exert a pretty decent effort in my training and/or nutrition. So I tried to think to what I can attribute the change. My training isn’t any different. My nutrition isn’t any different. So initially, I just decided to chalk it up to luck. Then, later today, I met up with someone who sells these machines, and he reported other people with findings similar to mine before I even told him about all this. Then it clicked, and maybe there’s something to this vibration machine.

Anyways, to wrap things up, I don’t know yet what to make of all this yet, but since I now have easy access to this machine, my investigation into the machine, the science behind it and the possible results begins. I’ll report periodically with what I find.

As part of my investigation, I’m going to the headquarters, and asking one of their science guys everything I want to know about the machine, what the physiological mechanisms at work are, and more. So if you have any questions that you’d like me to ask on your behalf, please feel free to email me. Chances are, if you have a question, a number of other people have the same question.

Body Transformation in the Making

Last week, I told you about a client of mine, Melony Teague. We have an 8-week challenge, and that is to transform her body (as much as possible in this short period of time) before she goes to Siberia. You can read about her body transformation as it happens on her blog, here:
