Are you trying to burn more calories? Activity, especially non-exercise activity certainly contributes to a healthy weight, and in general, better health and enjoyment of life.

So here are 10 unique ways to burn more calories.

  1. Take the stairs. Use the stairs instead of elevators or escalators. If you just go up and down 2 flights of stairs each day instead of taking the elevator or escalator, it may cause you to burn 30-40 calories per day. Not much, but add that up over a week and it becomes more substantial.
  2. Park farther away. Don’t look for the closest parking spot to the door. The funniest thing for me is when people find the closest spot to the door at the gym, only to go and walk on the treadmill. Hmm…
  3. Engage in more intimate activities. For best results, do it twice a day. This activity is very much Igor-approved. See Kama Sutra for more details.
  4. Fidget. Do you know that people who fidget can actually burn as many as 900 calories over the span of a day? Even though they’re technically not exercising. So forget what your second-grade teacher told you.
  5. Walk and talk. If your circumstances allow, whenever you get on the phone, pace around the room.
  6. Laugh more. Laughing has a double whammy or helping you burn more calories in and of itself, but it also elevates your mood, which naturally makes you feel like moving.
  7. For short distances, walk (heck, if you have the time, walk long distances, too). I’m talking about picking up the mail, or picking up the kids or grandkids from school, etc.
  8. Taking the bus? Get off a stop early, and walk the rest of the way.
  9. Are you meeting someone and you got to your location too early? Don’t just sit down and wait. Do a little tour of the place and the neighborhood. Walk around
  10. Engage in more intimate activities. For best results, do it twice a day. This activity is very much Igor-approved. See Kama Sutra for more details. Oh wait, I already mentioned that one, didn’t I? Well, do it again.
