Struggling With the Last 10 Pounds? Detox!
So you’ve been exercising and eating right, and after losing 10, 20, 30 or more pounds, you’ve hit a plateau. In other words, you have more weight to lose, but what worked for you up until this point no longer does. Yeah, it’s the dreaded “last 10 pounds” or “last 15 pounds” or whatever the case may be.
You might have even tried increasing the amount of exercise, or reducing your food, or possibly both, but neither one has worked. In fact, working harder, and eating less without making any additional progress can really lead to frustration.

How do you finally get the weight to budge?
Well, because you’re a reader of this newsletter (and therefore my best bud J), I’ll tell you.
See, one of the reasons for hitting a fat loss plateau is the accumulation of toxins in the body. Toxins are stored in body fat, and when the body fat drops, toxins get released into the bloodstream, and they can overwhelm your organs of detoxification (these include the liver, kidneys, lymphatic system, skin, lungs and large intestine). So it can take 6-9 months or more for those organs to process all the toxins coming in, and fat loss to resume.
But I’m not that patient. I want fast results for my clients. I don’t have the time to wait.
So what do we do with our clients?
We thoroughly assess them to identify where their blockage is. Frequently we see that they are what’s called “estrogen toxic.” What does that mean? It means that whether they are a male or female, they are either producing excess estrogen, or unknowingly taking in excess estrogen from the environment/medications.
How do you know if this is the case for you?
- If you’re a woman, you have problems with your periods
- If you’re a woman, you have PMS
- If you’re a man, you carry more fat on your chest than your triceps (backs of the arms)
- If you’re a man, you have puffy nipples
- You watch romantic comedies
Just kidding about that last one. But really, you could stand to watch more Jackie Chan and Sylvester Stallone movies. Just saying.

What do we do with clients who fit this description?
For one thing, we recommend they cut back on alcohol, soy and peanut consumption. All of those force testosterone to get converted into estrogen (in both men and women).
We also recommend they increase their intake of broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage and Brussels sprouts. These vegetables in particular have a natural chemical called “indole-3-carbinol” that helps you get the estrogens out of your body safely.
Increasing your fiber goes a long way as well. So getting 30 grams of fiber (just 2 tablespoons, spread throughout the day) per day on top of lots of veggies will be very good. Besides being great for your digestive system, fiber binds to toxins, and safely eliminates them from your body.
We also recommend supplementing with resveratrol, zinc, grapeseed extract, DIM (diindolylmethane) and CDG (calcium-D-glucarate). Although not all of these are done at the same time. We rotate through 2 weeks of resveratrol+grapeseed extract and DIM/CDG. That keeps going until the body fat comes down to where we want it to be.
Combine all of these strategies and you have a very potent way of getting rid of body fat during a fat loss plateau.
Now, estrogen toxicity is just one reason for fat loss plateaus, but there are lots of others, like:
- Weak liver function
- Constipation
- Slow thyroid
- And others
Unfortunately, I don’t have enough space in this newsletter to go into great depth on each one of those (how much time do you have? How about a few semesters?) But if you’d like to break through your own fat loss plateau with a more customized approach, let me know.
Short Summary
- Toxins accumulate in body fat.
- When you lose fat, toxins can overwhelm the detoxification organs, and they need to play “catch-up” for 6-9 months or more before you start losing fat again.
- By supporting detoxification, you lose fat much easier and more effectively
- One common form of detoxification is estrogen detox. Use:
- Resveratrol
- Grapeseed extract
- DIM
- CDG
- Zinc
