Have you ever stood in front of the mirror, in wonder (or anger, frustration, etc.) of your dimpled-looking fat? That’s cellulite. Or guys, have you ever commented on your wife’s or girlfriend’s cellulite? Probably not, because you wouldn’t be alive to read this article if you did.

In this article, we’re going to delve deeper into this.

What is Cellulite, and What Causes It?

Cellulite is the dimpled-looking fat, usually on your buns and thighs (sometimes the arms). It goes by many names: “cottage cheese fat” and “orange peel fat” are just a couple of them.

It seems that what causes it is simply being a woman. And not even an overweight woman, because even very lean women have cellulite (although it is worse in overweight women).

It’s not any more harmful than regular fat. It just looks dimpled. In fact, for all intents and purposes, it actually is regular fat. So it’s not even because of your body fat. It’s more because of the skin. There seems to be thinner skin in areas where the cellulite is showing. So it’s more of a skin issue, than a fat issue.

How to Get Rid of Cellulite

Firstly, because cellulite is fat, after all, anything that helps reduce fat will help reduce cellulite too. But what if you’re already lean, and still have cellulite? Here are a few things you can do:

Make Sure You’re Getting Adequate Protein

Protein is needed for connective tissue support. And guess what? Your skin is connective tissue. If you improve your skin, the fat won’t protrude from underneath it.

How do you know how much protein you need? Read this article.

Balance Your Hormones

Cellulite is seen primarily in women, and very rarely in men. However, men do get it when their testosterone levels are very low and/or estrogen levels are very high. Likewise for women, if hormones are out of balance, you can get cellulite. There’s not a perfect match between hormonal balance and cellulite (ie you could be hormonally balanced and still have cellulite), but it’s worth doing anyway.

How do you balance your hormones? You could write several volumes on the topic, but my recommended way is to just go and see Dr. John Dempster. He’s done the studying, and worked with lots of patients. That’s who I send all my clients to when they need to balance their hormones.

Improve Your Lymphatic System

The lymphatic system is kind of like your body’s garbage collection. It filters certain fluids in the body, and if it’s not working properly, the fluids build up around fat cells, again giving the cellulite appearance.

How do you improve your lymphatic system? There are a few ways, but exercise, damn it! Exercise helps your circulatory system, and therefore your lymphatic system also gets mobilized.

There you have it. Now you have 3 great strategies for how to get rid of cellulite. Now get to work.
