For fitness lovers, keeping active is key to good health. Whether you enjoy going to the gym, working out from your living room, or participating in sports with others, we all have our likes and dislikes when it comes to exercising.
Since the start of the year, the COVID-19 pandemic has swept across Canada and the world, changing the way we live our day to day lives. Although we’re living in uncertain times, you must keep your energy and fitness levels up to reduce stress levels and keep you on track. To help, here is a guide on what you can do to keep exercising during COVID-19.
Set Specific Goals
To get the most out of your exercise regime during COVID-19, you need to set specific goals and stick to them. If you have been ordered to work from home or are having to isolate because of the pandemic, it can be hard to find the motivation to work out. So, creating a schedule and allocating time for exercise will add structure and routine to your day. Whether you want to get in better shape, improve your stamina, or up your step count, there are tons of smartphone apps and fitness trackers that you can use to keep a record of your progress.
Get Outdoors
Being cooped up indoors for the foreseeable may be hard to handle if you enjoy going to the gym and socializing with others. If you don’t like the idea of staring at the same four walls every day, getting out in the fresh air can do wonders for your health. Going for a brisk walk around the neighborhood can improve your mental and physical health. When outdoors, make sure that you wear a face covering and keep a safe distance between others.
Try Something New
With many of us having more time on our hands than ever before due to the coronavirus pandemic, why not use this as an opportunity to try out something new? If you’re interested in activities like yoga or Pilates, you can perform these from the comfort of your own home. Don’t be scared to try something new, as there will be no judgment from others. You can head onto YouTube and look at tutorials which will teach you the basics, turning you from newbie to pro in no time. Thanks to technology, there are lots of virtual fitness programs you can take part in, which can be a great opportunity to engage with others.
Speak to Your Gym
For fitness lovers who are struggling away from the gym, it’s best to check with your provider to see whether they’re open. If you get the green light, it’s best to visit in off-peak times to help you get the most out of your workout. All gyms and fitness facilities should have a Sneeze Guard EZ installed in the relevant areas, which will keep you and other gym-goers safe. Make sure that you use hand sanitizer when entering the building and before and after using equipment too.
Although we’re in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, that’s not to say you can’t keep exercising. If your local gym is shut for the time being, there are lots of activities you can partake in from the comfort of your home which will boost your energy levels and stamina.
